Are you ‘married alive’…? Don’t miss this show

Actors Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre has another hilarious musical comedy, Married Alive. You will not want to miss this show that provides lots of laughs and has a super talented cast, Gary Marachek, always a favorite; Marcia McClain; Huli Kleiner; and Jason Parrish. Artistic Director, David Arisco, and Executive Director, Barbara Stein, are an amazing team that continues to bring great shows to our community year in and year out.

This latest show opened Friday, July 10, to a packed house in the upstairs theatre. Prior to the show, guests enjoyed a lovely reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres and a carvery station donated by Catering by Lovables as well as open bar, donated by Bacardi. As always, Alberto Romeu, was on hand donating his services as photographer for the evening. Seen mingling and enjoying the evening were Coral Gables Mayor Don and Jeannett Slesnick, who will soon be celebrating their 40th anniversary; Coral Gables Vice Mayor Bill Kerdyk and wife, Lynn; Ramon Ferrer, of FPL, and his wife, Mayra; Yolanda Woodbridge; and hundreds more.

The 5300 Chop House at The Blue (5300 NW 87 Avenue) in Doral is hosting a Summer Social for the Junior Orange Bowl Committee on Tuesday, July 28. JOBC President Marti Bueso and Membership Chair Annie Goodrich are looking to broaden the Committee’s volunteer base as this organization looks to the future. While Coral Gables will always be its home, the volunteers come from all over Miami- Dade County, much like the Coral Gables Woman’s Club. Holding first class world renowned tournaments, the JOBC draws people from around the world and produces many, many millions of dollars in economic impact for South Florida.

The JOBC looks forward to introducing many to the 5300 Chop House Executive Chef Josh Wahler, of Hell’s Kitchen fame, and The Blue’s Food and Beverage manager, George Rodriguez, who has been instrumental in coordinating this affair.

Coral Gables Community Foundation held a ’behind-the-scenes’ reception at their Gables office giving guests a glimpse of its latest project, Gables Home Page. This initiative was made possible through a grant from the John L. and James S. Knight Foundation. It is an online news exchange specifically for people who live and work in Coral Gables. The University of Miami School of Communication is collaborating on the project by providing student interns.

In other community foundation news, the Community Foundation of Pinecrest ‘s new initiative, Seniors Neighbors Assistance Program (SNAP), recently completed its first project helping give a facelift to the home of a disabled senior living on a fixed income whose home needed help. CFP’s board member Jennifer Wollmann worked with Dale Hutchinson, who coordinated this first effort. Ace Hardware donated paint while PJ’s Landscaping and many others who contributed in-kind services.

Having the home pressure cleaned and painted and the yard cleaned up, it is certainly a safer and lovelier place. With support received thus far, the program promises to be a godsend for many and could be one that other communities may want to adopt.

Until next week, keep making each day count.

Keeping up with what’s happening in our community is quite a challenge and I am certain there are many activities I miss. If you would like to submit information for this column, please send your news via email to < >.
