The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club held a mini-fundraiser, thanks to the generosity of Joe Marouf (a fellow-Rotarian of this writer) who hosted the event at his Carolina Ale House in Doral. More than 40 members and guests enjoyed an evening of food and drinks raising $600 for the Club’s May Van Sickle Children’s Dental Clinic that provides more than $225,000 in free dental care annually to the children of the working poor. Last year alone, it treated more than 600 patients.

Among many attending the event were CGWC President, Mayra Dominguez; Vice President Debi Moore; Kristy Fueyo; Yolanda Woodbridge’; Enid Miguez; Nancy Concepcion’ Maria Martinez; John Burns; Al Naon; Jr., Orange Bowl Executive Director Jessica Cerda; and Iliana Rodriguez, to mention a few. It was especially great to see members of the Doral Business Council and many Rotarians on hand to lend their support.

The Miami Chapter of the National Association of Professional Women held a lovely after-hours event July 22 at Il Forno, coordinated Lizz Wiegandt and Chapter President Aly Ramos and hosted by restaurant owner Ciro Maneri.

In addition to delicious appetizers, the evening featured the beautiful art of Roxy Sora. While Roxy is a successful businesswoman, she is also a talented artist whose work wowed the crowd. Among many attending the affair was Pete de la Torre, whose radio show has featured several NAPW members since he started on air at 880 BIZ weekdays from 8-9 a.m.

In other news, it was great to see new vendors at the Doral Farmers’ Market. Paolita’s Jams are delicious and completely organic. Monica “Patricia” Galara uses fresh fruits and stevia as a sweetener. Tastings are available at almost every turn as you stroll the market. I recommend Martica’s Sweet Creations flans and Kid Dough Treats that target restricted diets for children. Willy’s Genuine Panama Hats are also a great market buy as are jewelry, crafts, plants, soaps, oils, and, of course, food items representing numerous cultures.

Finally, congratulations to First Bank’s Iliana Carbajal as she takes over as President of the Doral Rotary Club. The club meets every Tuesday. 6:00 p.m. at Carino’s.
