More than 200 gather for Bar Association’s President’s Ball

More than 200 people gathered on June 6 at The Biltmore Hotel for the Coral Gables Bar Association’s 57th annual President’s Ball and Installation of Officers and Directors. The invocation was given by Pastor Roberto Perez, president of ALFALIT, whose charity helps promote literacy around the world. A successful raffle conducted for this worthy charity raised approximately $2,000.

The Hon. Eugene J. Fierro swore in new directors while Coral Gables Mayor Donald D. Slesnick II, swore in officers and presented a proclamation naming June 6 as “Coral Gables Bar Association Day” in the City of Coral Gables.

Among other highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Bar’s Lifetime Achievement Award to the Hon. Edward B. Davis, retired Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The Hon. Federico Moreno, current chief judge of the same court, introduced Judge Davis, who also was presented with a guayabera by a group of his former law clerks. Coral Gables Bar president Martin Leach presented Judge Davis with a letter from former President Jimmy Carter, who appointed Judge Davis to the federal bench in 1979, congratulating him on receiving the award, a crystal prism with a quotation from Justice William Brennan.

After the presentation of the award, the Hon. Marilyn Milian, from People’s Court television show, entertained the crowd rounding out a great affair.
