America’s Life Line Foundation (ALLF) held a fund raising luncheon, “A Tribute to Our Troops”, at the DoubleTree Miami Mart Airport Hotel December 4. This annual affair organized by Ann Miller included a Chinese raffle with lots of great prizes, and live entertainment throughout the afternoon to raise funds to purchase holiday gifts for veterans and military men and women returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Aside from songs by Ted Miller (an international singer, songwriter and recipient of nine Congressional Records) guests also heard incredibly-talented young singers from Gulliver Schools, Jayson Ballard and Marcela Velasquez. The Keynote Speaker, U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ross Lehtinen, just named Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, gave an inspiring presentation, requesting Miller to sing her favorite song, Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”. The rendition brought everyone up from their seats to form concentric circles, holding hands and joining in the singing with Miller. Gulliver’s award-winning dance team directed by Gerri Michelle Caruncho added their sparkle with several great dance numbers.

ALLF focuses on providing immediate assistance to our armed forces, as well as family members of servicemen and women and veterans. The group organizes educational and motivational programs for children, builds vital, economic and safe communities as well as supporting the vulnerable and aging, too.

The beautiful home of La r ry and Shelley Rutherford one of many homes included in the recent Coral Gables Garden Club “Celebrate a Dream” Holiday Home and Garden Tour. Built in 1952, the home called “Bahamian Paradise” has undergone a two years of renovation by Fajardo & Lam Design Associates and architect, Bruce Brockhouse, and the house was certainly a Tour favorite. Among some of the other homes toured were those of Allen Morris, Bruce Fitzgerald, Stephanie Figueroa and Ken and Gail Mase. Chairing the 2010 tour was Jana White, ably assisted by Co-Chair Charlotte Henderson, and a host of helpers, including Garden Club President Kay Murff, Judy Arthur, Kay Lores, Martha Mensch, Andrea Stribngos, Pat Clarke, Hilda Lawhorn, Jane Wilson, Liliana Porfiri, Judi Welsh, Damaris Gibb, Jessica Perkins, Blanche Brownell and Pat Crow.

Finally, may you all have a joyous holiday season, remembering to count your many blessings, comforting those in need and loving abundantly.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
