The Rotary Club of South Miami has already begun plans for the 33rd annual festival February 20-21, 2016. This free event features 150 outstanding artists, a fine expanded food court and beer garden as well as live jazz onstage. For online vendor or artist applications and information, visit www.Southmiamiartfest.org.

By the way, these busy South Miami Rotarians are looking to help out with an upcoming Summit for the East Coast Greenway Alliance entitled Wheels: Advancing Florida’s Mobility Future. As members arrive with their families to MIA, they will be car-free promoting the use of bicycles and our mass transit system. This pro-biking group is developing a trail system to link many of the major cities along the Eastern Seaboard from Canada to Key West. Coordinating this weekend will be challenging and, you can be sure, informational for all involved.

In other news, the Women’s Cancer Association of the University of Miami (The Franklin C. Bush Chapter) returns with an annual fashion show luncheon that is always a hit with the ladies. Block out your day, Friday, November 13, to start shopping in their boutique at 10 a.m. with bargains galore followed by a luncheon and fashion show at noon featuring emcee and auctioneer for the event WLRN’s Patrick Harris. WCA Past President Suzie Harper and current President Judi Ashworth have worked together with members to make this one of their best luncheons ever. A new location in the Garden Room at the Country Club of Coral Gables promises to be a beautiful setting for the boutique on the upper level and the show on the lower level overlooking the pool. Tickets are $75. For reservations, contact JoAnn Cappelletti at RCappy@bellsouth.net.

In the international front, UM’s BankUnited Center was the place to be on October 15 for the IG Travel & Entertaiment Expo. IG Travel Center’s Adriana Parra, who hales from Ecuador and won a large government grant from that country for her innovative business plan, orchestrated an exciting expo the same day. The event, the IG Travel & Entertainment Expo, attracted an interesting mix of people from both the entertainment, travel and events industries for the first time in South Florida at University of Miami’s BankUnited Center.

A full program included time to network, a great panel discussion on the industry emceed by Pete de la Torre with such notables as Jose Sotolongo, Executive Director, Miami-Dade Sports Commission; Wendy Kellergis, President/CEOGreater Miami & the Beaches Hotel Association; Roberta DiPietro, Executive Director, Greater Miami Festivals & Events Association; Peter Tolmach, Immediate Past President, Jr. Orange Bowl Committee; and Andrew Goldberg, Vice President of Marketing/ Adrienne Arsht Center. Finishing off the evening were performances by Adriana’s brothers, Danilo and Jose Daniel and sister, Vivi Parra, all talented singers. Danilo even flew in from Ecuador just for this event and, to top it off, Adriana joined the show with her lovely voice. There was dancing in the aisles when this family and their band performed that evening promising to be an Expo that will grow even bigger next year.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
