$10,000 check helps Gables Museum toward funding goal

Lynn Bauer, of Bauer Financial, presented Robert Fewell with a check for $10,000 in an effort to help the Coral Gables Museum complete their targeted goals to fully fund the new museum. On learning of Fewell’s investment as a major donor to the project, Bauer was sold on the project.

She now encourages those who have not yet made the commitment to do so. This promises to be resource that will not only serve Coral Gables but the entire South Florida community.

Speaking of great resources, Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre celebrated opening night for its current production of a hot new pop hit musical comedy, and current Off-Broadway sensation written by Roger Bean, The Marvelous Wonderettes. This production is clearly a crowd pleaser with songs from the ’50s, and ’60s.

Following the show on opening night, the Westin Colonnade hosted an after party during which guests enjoyed food and drink as will as karaoke and another appearance by the wonderful cast: Amy Miller Brennan, Tiana Checchia, Julie Kleiner and Lisa Manuli. Performances at the Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. For tickets or information, call 305-444- 9293 or go online to <www.actorsplayhouse. org>.

The Junior Orange Bowl Committee held a “Beach Party Bingo” fundraising auction at the Miami Rowing Club. Chair Cecilia Dubon Slesnick chose a perfect setting for the theme party that featured a Bacardi Bar, some classic music, great picnic type food including pulled pork and incredibly delicious desserts.

Adding to the fun during the evening was Metrozoo’s Ron Magill. The always funny and entertaining Magill was the auctioneer for the live auction, part of the evening helping the JOBC raise needed funds for this year’s schedule of events.

CoralGables@Home offered members a chance to hear Kirk Landon, former CEO of Bankers Insurance and philanthropist, speak and answer questions about investments strategies and more. More than 30 people gathered at the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club. Hosting this event is one of many ways that the group provides help to many non-profits in need. In fact, an event on Oct. 9 also was the recipient of their largess as CGWC helped Safespace Foundation with a fundraising auction spearheaded by CGWC member and Safespace board member Carol Nobles, of Young Stovall & Company.

Congratulations go out to Patrick G. Morris. Morris recently was named chief development officer for the YMCA of Greater Miami and will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of a comprehensive development program.

Prior to joining the YMCA, he was a principal at the marketing firm Think Factory and president and CEO of the non-profit organization Hands on Miami, an organization he helped found 15 years ago. Morris has more than 20 years experience conducting community outreach campaigns. Until next time, keep making each day count.
