Bulla Gastrobar and Pisco y Nazca recently helped raise awareness and funds for Global Water Brigades, an international nonprofit organization constructing clean water systems in Nicaragua, Honduras and Ghana.
With a goal of bringing in $12,500 to benefit the community of El Hatillo, Nicaragua, which is home to 67 families in need of clean water supply, the fifth annual Water Party MIA took place Nov. 13 at The Four Seasons in Brickell.
The two restaurants, Bulla Gastrobar in Coral Gables and Pisco y Nazca, having just opened in Kendall Palms, not only supported the event with a social media campaign but provided delicious bites for the more than 250 guests who also indulged in drinks courtesy of Botran Rum, Finalandia Vodka, Herradura Tequila and wine from Aficionados Brickell.
The group orchestrating the event not only met its goal but also exceeded it big time raising $18,412 with additional donations still coming. Among the amazing people responsible for organizing the event were Tania Marin, Brenda Cortes Kilibarda, Peter Regalado, Dan Mucerino, Farah Marin Serralta and Denise Erwin.
Coming off of a successful gala fundraiser at Trump National Resort, A Safe Haven for Newborns Gala chair Norris Perez has stepped up to chair yet another big undertaking. Norris and numerous other Safe Haven for Newborns supporters are planning their third annual Walk at Amelia Earhart Park on Feb. 27, 2016. All of South Florida is encouraged to join firefighters, youth groups, emergency response team members and other non profits to participate and help Nick Silverio, organization founder, to save the lives of babies. To date, Safe Haven has saved 235 babies from abandonment and the list seems to grow every week. Mark your calendars and sign up early. Sponsorships are available. In the spirit of this giving season, members of the GFWC Coral Gables Women’s Club gathered for a Thanksgiving pot luck feast followed by the annual preparation of food baskets, 40 in all, for the families of the club’s free dental clinic.
While one group of women worked on that project, another group tackled the donations of toiletries collected making 75 gift bags for women that were delivered by club president Mayra Dominguez to Agape Family Ministries.
For those unfamiliar with Agape, it is one of the first non-denominational and non-sectarian faith-based substance abuse, mental health residential treatment facilities and community health centers in South Florida.

In other service club news, the Rotary Club of Miami Brickell held a district Rotary2Rotary evening mixer on Nov. 11. More than 70 Rotarians from the Gables, South Miami, Dadeland and beyond gathered at Taverna Opa in Mary Brickell Village for this monthly event that offers clubs an opportunity to share their activities and meet new Rotarians. The group moves up north to Frankey’s Sports Bar for their next mixer hosted by the Rotary Club of Hallandale Beach on Dec. 8. Finally, various locations in Coconut Grove and South Miami are collecting toys for children between the ages of 2 and 5 for St. Alban’s Child Enrollment Center in Coconut Grove and South Miami. More than 200 children will receive gifts at a special gift presentation ceremony on Dec. 15. To help with the cause, during business hours Monday-Friday, supporters may drop off toys at the Coconut Grove BID office 9 a.m–5 p.m. (3390 Mary St., # 130), and at Cocowalk or at The Shops of Sunset from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kudos to the Coconut Grove BID, the Grove Chamber and CocoWalk for facilitating this drive.
