Burger Bob’s, a favorite neighborhood dining place next to the Golf Shop on Granada Golf Course, was filled with the spirit of the season on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve birthday girl Lynn Bauer and fiancé Dr. Hal Wanless arrived for Lynn’s party with two large boxes of giant stuffed animals and more for the police toy drive for which she has donated dozens of skateboards.

More than 30 friends gathered to celebrate a woman whose heart is as big as the ocean. Whether or not one came for the party, everyone was treated to cake, fruit and more. For this writer, sharing breakfast on Christmas Eve with Lynn is a perfect way to start this special day.

The YMCA reception at Four Season’s announced merging of Greater Miami and Fort Lauderdale organizations with plans for their spring gala to be chaired by Robin and Susan Shelley.

Of course, the December calendar also was filled with holiday parties. The National Association for Professional Women held a Holiday Breakfast meeting at Right Space to Meet in the Gables while the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s board of director’s gathered for a dinner and gift exchange on Dec. 17. The club meets the first and third Wednesday of every month, 6:30 p.m., at its clubhouse, 1009 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. They are always looking for women who want to serve the community.

The women are gearing up for their big Casino Night fundraiser on Mar. 7 with proceeds directed to support the club’s free children’s dental clinic. Save that date for a fun evening for a great cause. For details and sponsor information, contact Debi at deborahvanstone1@outlook.com.

A week before Christmas, the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Tournament kicked off its Main Draw with party at Bank United Center for players and families featuring as guest speaker renowned tennis coach Nick Boilettieri and CBS4 Emmy Award-winning journalist and news anchor Eliott Rodriguez who emceed the program. Honorary chair for the tournament Martina Navratilova could not make that kickoff party but did attend the finals match to help present trophies with JOBC Tennis chair Barbara Waters.

In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
