Nissan adds 600 hp GT-R NISMO to 2015 sports car lineup

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]issan’s vaunted GT-R super sports car is the fastest production sports car on the road today, and it is even more awesome in 2015 with the addition of a new 600 hp NISMO to the lineup, the most powerful vehicle the company has ever produced.

Under the Hood and enhancements

The new GT-R Nismo has 55 hp more than non-NISMO models, and also has an exclusive racing-inspired body, along with special interior and powertrain treatments. At the same time, the GT-R Premium and GT-R Black Edition are outstanding sports cars, too, and they also received performance, exterior and interior enhancements for the new model year.

The major changes focus on:

• A recalibrated suspension for a more sophisticated ride and better road holding;

• Enhanced exterior appearance with LED headlight technology and distinctive front and rear designs;

• A more premium interior feel with enhanced appointments and improved quiet, including a standard Bose Active Noise Cancellation system and a carbon-style instrument cluster.

Chassis enhancements for the new model year are balanced between the suspension, steering and braking systems, and tire design. The sophisticated four-wheel independent suspension has been fine tuned to reduce load fluctuation between the four wheels, giving better road handling and a more consistent grip. More consistent tire contact has been achieved by optimizing control of the shock absorber valves, as well as the use of modified front stabilizer spring rates and updated bush links. The reduction in minute vibrations and road noise helps provide a more comfortable ride. Another benefit is improved straight-line stability, with fewer small steering corrections needed to maintain trajectory during highway driving.

Every 2015 GT-R has a special Bilstein DampTronic driver adjustable shock absorber system that utilizes multiple vehicle information systems to provide appropriate damping forces and a high level of control for a variety of driving situations. The DampTronic system has three driver selectable settings — Normal; Comfort and R (for Racing, we assume). The same three-stage adjustability also is available for the VDC system and transmission shift operation. The GT-R’s steering has been fine-tuned to reduce the effort for in-town maneuvers and the braking calibration has been retuned for firmer, more linear response at everyday speeds.

The GT-R’s rigid forged black aluminum 20- inch RAYS wheels have a knurling feature inside to help keep the tires from slipping around the rims under heavy acceleration or braking.

The bottom line is that the GT-R is a more sophisticated sports car, one that not only has more power, but delivers an experience of “reconnecting the driver with the enjoyment of driving.”

Pricing

The 2015 Nissan GT-R ranges from $101,770 for the Premium model and $111,510 for the Black Edition to $149,990 for the NISMO.
