‘Nite Hike’ and Flag Retirement ceremony set at Deering Estate

Visitors can explore the natural areas and see wildlife at night during the Deering Estate’s “Nite Hike” and campfire on Wednesday, July 6, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Enjoy a guided tour of the tropical hardwood hammock trail and listen for great horned owls and eastern screech-owls along the way. After the Nite Hike, gather under the stars around a campfire by the bay and enjoy complimentary s’mores.

This month’s night hike will be accompanied by a flag retirement ceremony. Flag retirement is the term used to define the proper, dignified way of destroying United States flags that are no longer fit to serve the nation. The specialized “Nite Hikes” are free to military personnel and veterans with military ID.

Cost is $15 per person, free for Deering Estate Foundation members. To register, call the Deering Estate Ticket Office at 305-235-1668, ext. 233, or register online.
