2016 Coconut Grove Arts Festival to select artists, Oct. 14 and 15

Jurors will gather on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Offices, located at Mayfair in the Grove, 3390 Mary St., Suite 128, to select the artists to participate in the 2016 Coconut Grove Arts Festival (CGAF).

A milestone year for festival, seven countries are represented among the more than 900 artist applications received by the 2016 CGAF — making it the most internationally diverse group the event has ever reviewed. In addition to the United States, applicants represent Canada, Georgia, Israel, Jamaica, Hungary and Argentina. Thirty-one percent of applicants are from Florida.

Last year’s winners automatically are invited to exhibit their art at this year’s CGAF. Jurors use previous award-winning pieces to set the standards for this year’s exhibits.

Jurying of two-dimensional art (2D Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Digital Art, Printmaking & Drawing and Watercolor) will begin on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. while the seven categories of three-dimensional art (Claywork, Glass, Fiber, Jewelry & Metalwork, 3D Mixed Media, Sculpture and Wood) will be juried on Thursday, also beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Applications for participation in the widely received “New & Emerging Artist” category, designed to allow firsttime artists between the ages of 18 and 29 an opportunity to exhibit their work at one of the nation’s leading outdoor, fine arts festivals, also will be reviewed over the two-day period.

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival (CGAF) returns Presidents Day Weekend, Feb. 13, 14 and 15, 2016 to Coconut Grove. For more information or to purchase tickets for the 2016 Coconut Grove Arts Festival, visit www.CGAF.com.
