Coral Gables Hospital recently appointed Patrick Downes as the hospital’s new chief executive officer. As CEO, Downes will be responsible for all hospital operations, executive planning and medical services of the 245-bed acute care hospital.

Downes comes to Coral Gables Hospital after serving as the chief operating officer of Hialeah Hospital for four years. Among his accomplishments as COO, Downes spearheaded several innovative projects, including the opening of the first Senior ER in Miami-Dade County, a new comprehensive wound care center, and the opening of a 12-bed behavioral health unit.
He also led a regional COO group for Tenet in Florida as the group’s chair and oversaw capital improvements and operational initiatives that improved the overall patient experience.
Previously, Downes served as the associate administrator for Tenet Florida Physician Services where he managed the recruitment and business development operations of the physician practice management group. He also has held the position of associate administrator at North Shore Medical Center and was instrumental in developing the hospital’s primary stroke center.
Downes earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Business Administration from Florida State University.
