Coral Gables-University welcomes Kumon

Stacey Werling (Certified Kumon Instructor: Kumon of Plantation-South), Elissa Chamizo (Certified Kumon Instructor: Kumon of Coral Gables-University), Eddy Ravelo (Kumon US East General Manager), Perry Tritto (Kumon Florida Branch Office Administrator), and Tyrone Albury (Kumon Florida Branch Office).

Kumon is an after-school Math and Reading program that helps children unlock their potential to achieve more on their own. Kumon of South Miami, now Kumon of Coral Gables-University, has relocated to better serve its growing number of families. Having outgrown its previous location on the corner of 57th Avenue and Bird Road, Kumon of Coral Gables-University opened its doors on October 22nd, 2014 at the intersection of Suarez Street and Ponce De Leon Blvd. Elissa Chamizo, Certified Kumon Instructor and Kumon Parent, has been providing Kumon to children in the South Miami and Coral Gables area for over 6 years. “Getting our students to work independently not only allows them the opportunity to be self-sufficient learners, but also develops a good sense of discipline and time management, all of which are necessary to succeed in life” says Chamizo. Kumon’s method of individualized learning offers all students the capacity to gain superior basic academic skills. Students at Kumon of Coral Gables-University have seen firsthand the benefits of the program with high standardized test scores as well as advanced placement in school classrooms.

The Kumon Math program enables students to progress from counting all the way up through high school calculus. The Kumon Reading program covers everything from learning letter sounds to reading Shakespeare. It’s no surprise that Kumon Program Completers are often able to obtain perfect scores on their SATs and ACTs. Outside of the classroom, Kumon Parents are also noticing a change in their students. “I am very surprised to see my daughters both prepare and pack their things when we go on vacation. Since starting the Kumon program, I have noticed them to be more organized with their tasks and eager to take on responsibility. Not only have we seen a change at home but in school their grades and standardized test scores have improved.” said Albelo whose daughters joined Kumon last year.

Kumon of Coral Gables-University is open Mondays and Thursdays from 2pm to 7pm, Wednesdays from 2:30pm to 6pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm and is located on 4699 Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. For more information call 305-66LEARN(53276) or send an email to
