Cupcake World in Coral Gables is set to hold its grand opening on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 6 p.m., and it’s sure to be a sweet one.

Cupcake World plans on giving free cupcakes and gelato to all guests, while supplies last. Live music and photo opportunities will turn the event into an afternoon of family fun.

Located at 262 Andalusia Ave., the bakery café is French-inspired and features 14 signature cupcake flavors, a cupcake bar where guests will get to build their own cupcake masterpiece, seven gelato flavors, a sweet and savory crepé menu, a full coffee bar and even a sprinkle wall.

Cupcake World’s shelves will be stocked with local goodies such as kettle corn, meringues, and artisanal jams and jellies, all for sale. On requested weekends, the bakery café can turn into a private afternoon tea party for little ones or a vintage-style soiree for a bride-to-be and her gals.

Cupcake World began in 2009 when founder Iris Casanova and her daughter, Sam, signed up for cake decorating classes at their local arts and crafts store. Week by week, Iris fell in love with the art of piping and decorating and realized that this would become more than a hobby.

Sam, on the other hand, preferred to taste-test.

Once Iris learned the basic skills, she realized she had to master them, as she has always been her own fiercest competition. She began practicing at home, creating cupcake recipes for her three children, the official taste-testers, and posting her creations on her personal social media outlets. It wasn’t long before her friends and family started placing orders and challenging Iris with extravagant requests, none of which she ever turned down.

In 2011, she shared her new-found passion with the South Florida community as she began selling her cupcakes at several farmers’ markets. Soon thereafter, she began to sell to local supermarkets and bakeries and creating designs for birthdays, weddings, baby showers, baptisms, engagements, and corporate meetings. Life was sweet, but Iris wanted to expand her business.

In 2013, she taught herself to create elaborate, tiered cakes, trendy cake pops, and decorated sugar cookies, offering more than cupcakes to her customers but rather, a world of yummy.

Iris and the Cupcake World team are excited to welcome the community on Nov. 5, as you enter their world, a world of yummy.
