Francis S. Tucker Elementary School students celebrate their graduation

The Coral Gables Woman’s Club hosted the fifth grade graduation party for Frances S. Tucker Elementary School on May 28. Tucker is the club’s adopted school and has been hosting this event for many years.

The 61 students and 15 teachers and administrators arrived around 10 a.m. and were welcomed to the clubhouse at 1001 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. The school counselor, Jolie Salazar, led a program where several of the fifth graders shared their elementary school memories, recited poems and received a number of awards.

The awards were voted on by fellow class members and included both male and female in the following categories: Class Clown, Most Studious, Cutest Boy/Girl, Most Athletic, Most Artistic, Best Leader, Most Likely to Become Famous, Most Likely to Succeed, BFF (girls/boys), and Most Musical.

After the program the students mingled, munched on snacks and danced to the music of a deejay. While the children were eating lunch which consisted of pizza and ice cream sundaes, Isabel Nieves, scholarship chair for the Venetian Aquatic Club, spoke about the swimming classes and scholarships available at the Venetian Pool during the summer months. She urged the students to apply and left applications for them to take home.

At the conclusion of the event a very special presentation was made to the club as a thank you for the party. One of the fifth grade students, Ariadna Rodriguez, presented a piece of artwork — a still life — which she drew to the Woman’s Club. It will hang in the club’s May Van Sickle Dental Clinic.
