Hank Langston is among the most well-respected, creative and tireless innovators in the field of education, not only in South Florida but around the nation and beyond.
Hank’s passion for teaching, mentoring and supporting education is legendary. In fact, he has been in the field for 55 years, with 48 years at Gulliver Schools
where he currently serves as Dean of Faculty and Director of University Affairs. Additionally, he is maintains his professional educator’s certification through the Florida Department of Education, his licensure as a Consultant for Scholar Athletes and finally, licensure as a Professional Sports Agent. In education and community service, few have the commitment possessed by Henry Langston.
Hank is a Life Member of the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association; Century Club’s founder and past president of the UCLA Alumni Club of Florida, and has served on UCLA’s Out-of-State Scholarship Committee. He also is an alumnus of Duke. As a committee member of the Duke University Club of Miami/Fort Lauderdale he has served as president, a member of the Award Committee and of the Varsity Club.
Hank served on the Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee at Duke and on the Education Advisory Committees of the University of Miami and Florida International University while also active with South Florida Independent School/DAANS Association as well as the Florida Council of Independent Schools Staff Development Committees.
Of course his commitment to learning and supporting educational programs and associations is just the tip of the iceberg. A role model for so many, Hanks has an incredible history of giving back to the community having served on multiple boards of directors including the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. He is a past chair of the Coral Gables Community Foundation; a trustee for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Chamber South; past president of the Ponce Development Association, and a member of the Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay business associations. A longtime member of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, he also served on the board of the Two Hundred Club of Greater Miami Inc. and has been on the board of Global Ties, formerly the Miami Council of International Visitors. He also is a member of the University and Governor’s Clubs of Florida.
Having served on the board of directors for both the Riverhouse and Junior Orange Bowl Committees, his leadership brought new ideas. He founded and chaired the JOBC Scholar Athlete Award Committee, organized and chaired JOBC’s first nighttime parade and was the founding chair of the JOBC Gymnastics Tournament.
Using his contacts and influence, as chair of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Higher Education Task Force, Hank worked to create a compilation of representatives from colleges and universities throughout the state of Florida, as well as community leaders from the Greater Miami area. He worked on the board of directors of the Greater Miami Crime Commission’s Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization as well as the American Cancer Society.
He has chaired the Chamber South Military Affairs Committee, is a member of the Chamber South Program Committee, and has served on the board of directors of the Community Foundation of Pinecrest. In 2010, he attended the Air War College and became a member of the 57th National Security Forum at Maxwell Air Force Base. For his service to the military through his works with the Military Affairs Committees of Chamber South, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the Homestead Chamber of Commerce and the Beacon Council, he received a commendation from the Mayor and Miami-Dade City Commissioners.
Additionally, he has served as a committee member in the Higher Education Task Force, working with the Chancellor of the Florida University System. Hank was also awarded the Key to the City of Coral Gables.
