Made as simple light poles with decorative bases, approximately 78 White Way Lights will be restored.

You can find Coral Gables’ historic White Way Lights along both sides of Riviera Drive, from Anastasia Avenue to University Drive, and on both sides of University Drive, from Bird Road to Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

The original 1920s White Way Lights were designed by Phineast Paist, supervising architect, and by Denman Fink, art director for Coral Gables. The lights now are going to be restored and maintained by the city. In need of some TLC, the historic White Way Lights are original to Coral Gables.

The city commission recently approved a resolution to acquire these historic landmarks from Florida Power and Light and take over their restoration and maintenance

Made as simple light poles with decorative bases, approximately 78 White Way Lights will be restored. In those locations where they have been removed, the city will replicate the originals. This project will be implemented by the Historical Resources and Cultural Arts Department. Funding assistance has been provided by the Historic Preservation Association of Coral Gables.
