Cory Hogan shows Gables Rotarian Bill Quesenberry how to use fire hose, one of many crazy things attendees can do at the Autoverks Classic Car Show to benefit Coral Gables Rotary’s veterans programs.

Celebrate the holidays by shopping for a cause at the Coral Gables Woman’s Club on Dec. 3, 2015, noon to 8 p.m.

Join the fun at a Holiday Boutique being orchestrated by club member Susie Tilson to benefit the GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club Children’s Dental Clinic.

This beautiful historic clubhouse, which also houses the club’s children’s dental clinic, is located at 1001 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. Vendor spaces are affordably priced but going fast. This promises to be a great place to find unique gifts and yummy treats. Tickets are $3 in advance or $5 at the door. For more information or tickets, contact Susie at belletil@bellsouth.net.

The next Autoverks Classic Car Show is Saturday, Nov. 21, 6-10 p.m., at 8700 SW 133 St. Held the third Saturday of each month, admission is free to this fun-filled evening with proceeds benefiting the Rotary Club of Coral Gables’ veterans programs.

The band Zero Defect is returning to everyone’s delight with music that is sure to make you want to dance as is the fire truck that kids and adults love to check out while trying their hand at using the hose.

Of course, great classic cars are impressive and the grill is on for those who want to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and other snacks. Now that the weather is cooler, we should all take advantage of these great outdoor events.

Speaking of Rotary, chili lovers and chefs will want to save this date, Feb. 21, 2016, for Coral Gables Rotary’s first ever Chili Cook Off at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park.

Club president Greg Martini, whose wife, artist Nancy Martini, designed the artwork for the event, promises this will become a signature annual event for the club. Fred Baddour, club fundraising chair, and Martini are working on the details with a committed group of members including Sally Baumgartner, Yoli Woodbridge, Don Trombly, Bruce Kerestes, Steven Spann, Bill Quesenberry, Bill Martinez, and others. They want to make this event a success looking for sponsors, cooks and volunteers.

Walks and races are abundant this time of year. One relatively new race on the scene is the Holiday Family Fun Day 5K Race presented by Mitchell & West LLC, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Run in front of Coral Gables City Hall, the park lends itself to the various fun activities on hand for the children that morning. Look for cash prizes, trophies and awards for racers in multiple divisions. Best of all, the proceeds will benefit the Alzheimers Association. Those interested in participating should visit www.familyfunday5k.com.

Another event, the Arthritis Walk is coming up on Saturday Nov. 14, 8:30 a.m., at Amelia Earhart Park. This is a beautiful park and a bit of a drive, but well worth the effort. Several local teams will be participating. When you sign up, check them out to join a team you know or start your own. To support this event and sign up, visit http://walktocurearthritis.miami.kintera.org.

Of course, the Junior Orange Bowl events are in full swing with lots of opportunities to participate or volunteer. Visit www.jrorangebowl.org for the calendar and save the date for their annual gala, Feb. 27, 2016, at the Conrad.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
