Jr. OB Parade to celebrate 'A Groovy Gables Holiday'

Every holiday season for 69 years the Junior Orange Bowl Parade has celebrated youth, community, and culture with floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, vintage cars, and much more.

The Junior Orange Bowl invites everyone to Downtown Coral Gables on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 4 p.m. for the 69th annual parade, themed “A Groovy Gables Holiday.” The parade is the perfect way to end the Thanksgiving weekend and kickoff the holiday season with loved ones.
The theme this year will honor the event’s 69-year history by paying homage to the 1960s.

“The Junior Orange Bowl Parade is celebrating its 69th year, and we thought it would be fun to incorporate a theme that is reminiscent of the 1960s,” said Travis Stokes, parade chair. “We’ve found that everyone involved in the parade this year has embraced the theme wholeheartedly and used it as inspiration for their costumes, décor, and musical selections in an effort to give spectators a Groovy Gables Holiday.”

The parade route will begin on Alhambra Circle and Ponce de Leon Boulevard, head south to Miracle Mile, and finish at the grandstands in front of City Hall on Biltmore Way. Grandstand ticket holders also will enjoy a 30-minute pre-parade show.

The parade is free to attend and open to the public. Visit www.jrorangebowl.org/parade for grandstand ticket information.

The Junior Orange Bowl still is accepting applications to participate in the parade, which is open to any school, community, corporation, or youth organization that wishes to showcase its cultural talents and promote its mission.

The annual parade is the flagship event of the Junior Orange Bowl Festival season, which consists of 15 athletic, academic, and cultural youth events that are all held in South Florida. 1. The City of Coral Gables illegaly terminated last year’s CGTV Junior Orange Bowl parade hosts (Brianna and Mike) because they complied with the mandatory Hurricane Irma evacuation order. They would have been thrilled to host again.
