The Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel: Bit of paradise in paradise

If you are planning on visiting the Bahamas, I recommend spending some time at the Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel. From its luxurious accommodations and services to the idyllic natural beauty of its beaches and the unbelievable nightlife, it’s a wonderful experience in every possible way.

The Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel is located on the north end of New Providence Island on Cable Beach and sits right in the middle of an authentic tropical paradise. Its modern and bright rooms overlook the surrounding sandy white beaches and turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

I found the service at the Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel to be fantastic. As soon as I stepped out of my taxi there were friendly staff members waiting to greet me at the door. Education, respect and manners are of paramount importance in Nassau and these standards are reflected in the cordiality and insight of the hotel’s staff. Everything was clean and inviting, from the rooms and spas to the restaurants and gym.

I was in awe of the accommodations and facilities at my disposal. There is so much to do and so many places to go just inside and around the hotel alone that you can truly have an amazing experience without ever leaving the resort.

Outside in the gardens there are three extravagant pools with waterfalls facing the sea, hydro-massage tubs, sun beds and sun shades. You can relax an entire afternoon in the peaceful shade of coconut trees and not even notice until you begin to get hungry for dinner.

Everything is within a short walk of the hotel’s several dining venues. There is Aqua, an a la carte restaurant specializing in refined, rustic Italian cuisine; the O’Grille, which offers a variety of snacks and American barbecue; Cilantro, a gastronomic journey through fine Mexican-inspired dishes; Nikkei, a Japanese, Cantonese and Peruvian fusion restaurant; the Market Place, an international buffet with show cooking and magnificent areas serving a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes; the Estavida, an upbeat tapas lounge located in the lobby that serves a variety of innovative dishes and cocktails, and the Wet Bar, which services the pool area and the beach. And don’t fret if you end up eating a little too much (like I did); there is a fully equipped 24-hour gym to help you burn off any unwanted calories.

If you are looking for a little more activity, the Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel offers a variety of sports activities, games, Isla Bingo, straw weaving classes, numerous live shows and dance as well as fitness classes. As someone who enjoys water sports, I took advantage of the jet skis they had for rent.

Say what you want about touring an island on foot, but being able to circumnavigate it on your own private water vehicle is a very unique experience. (For those less daring, there’s also snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving and fishing.)

I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t mention the incredible and vibrant nightlife. The Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel is located just a few minutes from the center, shops, restaurants and nightspots of Cable Beach.

However, there were nightly events, live shows, music and attractions at the hotel that kept me more than sufficiently stimulated. I’ll just say this — the beaches, water and wildlife weren’t the only beautiful, eye-catching attractions.
