More than 1,500 young people participate in the competition over five nights.

The Merrick Festival Caroling Competition is an eagerly awaited holiday tradition for the past 30 years in the City of Coral Gables.

It has been a special way of celebrating the holidays, continuing the tradition of the festive sound of children caroling on the steps of the 550 Biltmore Way Building, in front of the beautiful poinsettia tree.

This year 27 Miami-Dade and Broward middle and high schools will perform free holiday concerts. More than 1,500 young people participate in the competition for cash prizes over five nights, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 29, and running through Sunday afternoon, Dec. 3.

Middle schools perform on Wednesday and Friday; high schools performances are on Thursday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon from 3 until 6 p.m. All evening performances are from 7 until 10 p.m. The concerts are open free to the public.

The 31st annual Awards Show will be on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. The Grand Prize winners return to perform their award winning programs and accept their checks.
