Nominations being accepted for 2016 National Small Business Week Awards

The U.S. Small Business Administration South Florida District is now accepting nominations for its 2016 National Small Business Week Awards, including the annual Small Business Person of the Year and the Small Business Exporter awards.

“Each year we receive nominations from very deserving small businesses in the South Florida community,” said SBA South Florida district director Francisco “Pancho” Marrero. “This annual awards program is our way of recognizing their excellence. I urge everyone to consider a small business owner or champion in the local community who is doing the good and hard work of entrepreneurship; it only takes one nomination to become a winner.”

The South Florida District is seeking nominations for the following awards:
Small Business Person of the Year;
Small Business Exporter of the Year;
Veteran Business Owner of the Year;
Minority Business Owner of the Year;
Woman Business Owner of the Year;
Small Business Advocate of the Year;
Financial Services Advocate of the Year, and
Small Business Media Advocate of the Year.

Business owners and advocates can selfnominate. Descriptions of the award categories and instructions on how to nominate a person can be found online at www.sba.gov/offices/district/fl/miami/resources/2016southfloridadistrict-office-small-business-week-awards-nominationsguidelines. The website also includes other national-level small business award categories and nomination guidelines.

The winners of the State of Florida Small Business Person of the Year and the Florida Small Business Exporter of the Year awards will advance to the national competition and be recognized during the National Small Business Week Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC, May 2-6, 2016.

Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities and to our nation’s economy. For over 50 years, SBA will continue its tradition in honoring the nation’s 28 million small businesses.
