John O’Rourke III, co-owner of Montica Jewelry – The Diamond Destination, in Coral Gables, FL, has been named the new Chair-Elect of the Coral Gables Community Foundation. His two-year term as Chairman will begin January 1, 2016.
Established in September 1991 by community leaders, the Coral Gables Community Foundation has helped area youth, elderly, and disabled citizens. The group has provided dental care for needy children, sponsored cultural activities, awarded academic, dance and music scholarships, and offered seminars to educate the public on important health, finance, and estate-planning issues.
“It is truly an honor to be asked to lead this extraordinary organization,” Mr. O’Rourke said. “I am so proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. Now more than ever, the initiatives that we undertake are not only important to those who directly receive it, they impact our community as a whole. I’m looking forward to supporting those programs as well as seeking new avenues for enhancing life in the Coral Gables area.”
Mr. O’Rourke presently sits on The Foundation’s Executive Committee and Chaired the Community Giving Committee in 2014. Additionally, he is past Chair of The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and presently sits on the Board of Directors for The Independent Jewelry Organization – the world’s largest jewelry buying group. Mr. O’Rourke supports a variety of not-for-profit organizations with particular focus on those whose focus is on serving the needs of children and young adults
The Coral Gables Community Foundation supports the Coral Gables Art Cinema, the Coral Gables Museum, the Coral Gables Senior High Culinary Arts Program, and the Merrick Festival, among many other notable regional programs.
