Coral Gables High senior Lady del Castillo is the secretary of the drama troupe, the club for students who participate in drama competitions.
This was her first year competing in drama. She was the stage manager for the One Act, a play that is 40 minutes long. She also is a member of the Drama Club, which is for those drama students who don’t compete.
Because of her involvement in drama, she worked with a friend to put on a production of Macbeth last February at the Open Stage Club in Coral Gables near Miracle Mile.
“Twelve students were involved,” she said. “There was one showing.”
The play raised more than $1,000 for a charity in Cambodia that helps a children’s hospital.
Del Castillo said the play was dedicated to her friend’s late uncle.
At school she is treasurer of the Italian Club and a board member of Interact.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and the International Baccalaureate Honor Society. She is an officer in the Italian Club, which has diverse activities from watching Italian films to better Italian language skills to making pasta.
She has been working on a project for Lauren’s Kids, a charity that educates adults and children about sexual abuse.
It was started by Lauren Book who was abused by her female nanny.
Adolfo Costa, Gables High principal, gave information about the charity to the Interact sponsor who requested del Castillo work with the Interact president to implement the program. The charitable program calls for recycling bins for electronics to be placed at the school and also collection bins for clothing and shoes.
“We’d get a report back saying how many pounds of clothes and shoes we raise,” she said.
“For each pound, we’d get five cents back.” For college, she has applied to Pace University, DePaul University, NYU and New Film Academy.
“I’m torn between TV production and stage management,” she said.
