National Elementary School Honor Society students from Sunset Elementary recently visited the Richard Gerstein Justice Building in Miami to get a closer look at the legal system.

As part of their selection to the National Elementary School Honor Society students from Sunset Elementary embarked on a special field trip to the courthouse that included observing the morning bond court, and the morning motion calendar with The Hon. Thomas Rebull.

The tour, which was arranged by the Lawyer’s Alliance and the Council for Educational Change, also included an educational presentation by court staff, Florida state attorneys, defense attorneys and representatives from the Department of Corrections. The day concluded with a trip of the “Bridge” and the Miami-Dade County Jail holding cells.

Randy Weber, a Miami personal injury attorney, helped organize the field trip for the Lawyer’s Alliance and the Council for Educational Change.

“I am pleased to have been a part of this unique experience for Sunset Elementary accomplished honors students,” Weber said. “The kids got an interactive experience and witnessed how the law and real life intersect on a daily basis.”
