The Children’s Bereavement Center announces group support meetings

CBC allows youngsters to share, connect and feel part of a community after loss of a loved one.

The Children’s Bereavement Center (CBC), an organization that provides free Peer Support Groups for children, young adults, and adult caregivers after the death pf a loved one, has announced its back-to-school Peer Support Group schedule and locations for children and their families. In partnership with VITAS Healthcare, the groups are conducted in locations around Miami-Dade.

“It’s estimated that one in five school-aged children experiences the death of a family member or friend. Learning to adjust to life, not ‘get over it,’ can make the experience more acceptable,” said Claude Grubair, CBC CEO. “Finding support in others often helps, especially for children. The CBC is one place that allows them to share, connect and feel part of a community after loss.”

Peer Support Groups meet at 6:30 p.m., each week, throughout the school year. To register for orientation, contact the CBC office at 305-668-4902, or visit www.childbereavement.org.

Miami-Dade locations:
Coconut Grove, Mondays, Ransom Everglades, 3575 Main Hwy.;
Miami Shores, Tuesdays, Miami Country Day School, 601 NE 107 St., and
West Miami-Dade, Wednesdays, Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, |500 SW 127 Ave.

In addition to the resources for children, the CBC also offers support groups for adults (parents/caregivers) who play a significant role in a child’s life and adults with personal loss. It is available in English and Spanish.

The Children’s Bereavement Center currently holds 94 groups per month throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties and is serving over 1,450 active participants. The CBC does not engage in clinical therapy, instead utilizes a peer support group model to enhance adjustment after a death.
