Alhambra Orchestra season opening concert features Beethoven’s Fifth

Alhambra Orchestra opens its 27th concert season with “Beethoven 5 Plus” featuring the ever-popular Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, the piece most often requested by the orchestra’s audiences. The opening concert is Sunday, Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., at Florida International University’s Wertheim Auditorium, 10910 SW 17 St.

With a new artistic director, Dr. Daniel Andai, on the podium, the orchestra also will perform Tchaikovsky’s flashy showpiece Capriccio Italien, plus two works showcasing the Amernet Quartet’s cellist Jason Calloway — David Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody and the lovely Silent Woods by Dvorak.

Bring the whole family for this free feast of exciting, accessible masterworks, and stay for post-concert dessert reception to meet the musicians. Alhambra Orchestra is Miami’s community orchestra, with a mission of supporting classical music and music education.

For “Beethoven 5 Plus,” there is free admission and plenty of parking. No tickets or reservations needed. Information is available at www.alhambramusic.org, 305-668-9260, or Alhambramusic@att.net.
