Chamber music concert, May 29, at the Deering Estate at Cutler

The 2014-15 Season of the Living Artist Concert Series presents a Chamber Music Concert “Tradition Bound” on Friday, May 29, at 7 p.m., with a meetthe- artist reception at 6:30 p.m.

The concert will feature the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble founding members with guest violinist Kelly Hall- Tompkins featuring a program of Romantic masterpieces by Brahms and Clara Schumann. There also will be a String Master Class on Saturday, May 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with leading American violinist Kelly Hall and top young string players of South Florida. The string master class is free with regular estate admission.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for students (K-12 and college with student ID). Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the Deering Estate Ticket Office at 305-235-1668, ext. 233. Please note that tickets are non-refundable.

The Living Artist Concert Series (LACS) combines ensemble performances with lectures, visual art exhibits, environmental awareness and interpretive programs. It acquaints the public with the best of South Florida’s artistic spirit through collaborations with faculty from the University of Miami and Florida International University; principal players of regional, national, and international professional orchestras; top youth performers, and national/international guest composers. Concerts are held in the historic Stone House Ballroom, which provides intimate seating for 125 guests, possesses superb natural acoustics for chamber music and offers a perfect environment for the exhibition of visual art.

The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble is comprised of founding members: Jose R. Lopez, piano (coordinator of Keyboard Studies, Florida International University), Ross Harbaugh, cello (University of Miami), and Laura Wilcox, viola. This ensemble came together out of a mutual respect for nature and the beautiful Deering Estate with a love to perform chamber music, work with living composers, and interact with history, nature and other art forms.

Thanks to The Deering Estate Foundation Inc. and Miami-Dade Parks, the ensemble has been able to fulfill a unique partnership with The Deering Estate at Cutler. From different parts of the Americas and sharing in vast musical experiences worldwide, The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble brings its audiences diverse listening experiences. The ensemble is in its eighth season (2014-15) and through a commitment to education, the ensemble looks forward to presenting public master-classes and lectures for audiences of all ages.

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami- Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation.

Historic house tours are offered daily at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a Natural Areas Tour is offered daily at 12:30 p.m. (October-May). Both the Historic House Tour and the Natural Areas Tour are free with regular admission to the estate. DeeringAdventure Tours also are offered throughout the year for an additional fee.
