The Town of Cutler Bay hosted a June 27 Community Conversation Workshop on “Aging in Miami-Dade” in partnership with the Alliance for Aging, AARP, United Way of Miami-Dade and the Age Friendly Initiative. The purpose of the outreach workshop was to inform the public on the Alliance for Aging’s 2017-19 Plan.
Alliance for Aging staff provided those attending with information regarding availability of existing services and the need for additional services, as well as information regarding programs to better support family caregivers and programs available to older adults in order to remain in their own homes. The workshop also provided participants with a better understanding on how “Age Friendly” their communities are and ways to improve on the “Age Friendliness” criteria.
Councilmember Sue Ellen Loyzelle said she thought it was a successful meeting.
“The town’s Communities for a Lifetime Committee has been working diligently on developing a strategic plan that will encompass the goals and programs identified in the town’s 2012 senior needs survey,” Loyzelle said. “Part of this plan is to offer informational programs, such as this ‘Aging in Miami-Dade County’ workshop in order to keep the residents updated on available resources and programs.
“The town is constantly looking for community partners to help us share resources that are beneficial to our residents,” Loyzelle added.
“We are proud to have community partners such as Alliance for Aging Inc., AARP, United Way of Miami-Dade, Age Friendly Initiative of Miami-Dade County, and The Florida Department of Elder Affairs for working with us to further inform our residents.”
