Community Center Coordinator, Cultural & Human Services Department More than fifty families – parents, grandparents, siblings and friends – came to watch the performance prepared by their kids – students of Pelican Community Park Drama Club and Ballroom Dancing class to celebrate the end of the academic year, on Wednesday, May 19.
Spectators enjoyed several songs and scenes from various musicals – Maybe (Victoria Gnip), Take a Bow (Mya Alexander), dances such as Don’t Rain on my Parade (Shira Bouganim), a scene from Promedy, two ensembles 21 Guns & Fame, etc.
Second part of the showcase was all about Dancing. Beginners and advance students of Ballroom Dancing class performed Rumba and Samba, ChaCha and Jive. All students and their teachers received a standing ovation for their beautiful performance.
The last act of the show was an introduction of a new and exciting program – Hip Hop Dancing for Youth*. Students of this new class, which just launched at Pelican Community Park, under the guidance of an experienced teacher, demonstrated their Hip Hop skills and moves that they recently learned. This
act was received by the audience also very well.
Also, in the foyer of the auditorium, students of the Fine Art Class* proudly displayed their creative artwork – paintings in acrylics (Romero
Britto style) and watercolors and Paper Mache animals (Black and Orange Cats).
After the show, students received certificates of completion of Drama Club and Ballroom Dancing programs. Excited and happy with a job well done, all students were treated to cookies and juice.
• City of Sunny Isles Beach continues enrollment for the Hip Hop Dancing for Youth program (ages 7-15, Saturdays, @ 11:00am–12:00pm), and Fine Art for Youth class (ages 8-15, Saturdays, 9:30 – 11:00am). Both programs are held at Pelican Community Park,18115 North Bay Road.
