High school seniors in Cutler Bay are being invited to write an essay about what they like about their town, and the winning essay writer will receive $1,000.
Sponsored by the law firm of Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske PL, the essay contest is open to students who live in Cutler Bay and are enrolled as seniors in high school. Students need to say why they consider Cutler Bay a great place to live. Essays are to be titled “Why My Town is Special” and should be no longer than 500 words.
The law firm has served as town attorney for the past five years and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The essay contest is in honor of that milestone, according to town attorney Mitchell A. Bierman.
“For our 20th anniversary, we are making a point of giving back to the many communities that have been so supportive of us through the years,” Bierman said. “We have had the good fortune of working with Cutler Bay and we are celebrating them, as well, by encouraging students to write an essay about how terrific their town is.”
A panel of three judges will evaluate the entries and select the winner, who will get $1,000 and have the opportunity to read the essay at a future town council meeting.
Other contest rules: All entrants must live in the Town of Cutler Bay. The last day for submissions is May 25. Each essay must be entitled “Why My Town is Special” and must portray the Town of Cutler Bay in a positive light. Each essay must identify the student writer, his/her address, email, phone number, and school. All entrants are limited to submitting one essay. Handwritten essays must be legible. All typed essays must be double-spaced.
All essays should either be mailed to Brooke Dolara at Weiss Serota Helfman Pastoriza Cole & Boniske PL, 200 E. Broward Blvd., Suite 1900, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301, or be emailed to email@example.com.
