Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, located at 14401 Old Cutler Rd. in Palmetto Bay, recently welcomed its new senior pastor, Dr. Mike Campbell. Returning to South Miami-Dade County is a homecoming of sorts for Dr. Campbell, who was the senior pastor of Pinelands Presbyterian Church in Cutler Ridge from 1997 to 2004. Following his time at Pinelands, he and his wife, Keren, along with their three children, moved to Jackson, MS, where he assumed the role of senior pastor of Redeemer Church PCA. Under his leadership, the church grew rapidly into a strong and vibrant multi-ethnic congregation.
“God has brought Old Cutler someone who is not only a genuinely Godly man, but someone who loves and appreciates working in a multi-ethnic community,” said Drew Kern, one of the church’s elders, and head of the search committee which brought Mike Campbell to Old Cutler. “He’s extremely grounded and is a natural at making the Bible ‘relateable’ to today’s culture and generations. Our members are thrilled to welcome him on board.”
Dr. Campbell received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Covenant Theological Seminary, with an emphasis of his studies being on the church and the city with — with a specific focus on diverse cultural inclusion through the gospel.
“My heart is always been inclined towards multi-ethnic congregations,” Dr. Campbell said. “Our community is home to individuals from numerous backgrounds, both ethnic and geographic, and its that diversity that makes us great. I’m so proud to be back in South Florida, and beyond honored to have been offered the position of senior pastor at a church that has been an integral part of the fabric of this community for five decades.”
Asked what his first steps in his new role will be, he responded that he is speaking with as many individuals as possible, both inside and outside the church.
“I want to learn. I want to learn about people’s needs, and continue our church’s mission of serving and spiritual leadership,” Dr. Campbell said.
“It is a very exciting time for Old Cutler,” said Dr. Stephen Clark, Old Cutler’s recently retired senior pastor. “Mike has a passion for impacting all people with the truths of the Christian faith and the life-changing power of the gospel.”
Dr. Campbell added, “I realize that I am joining a church that is already making a huge impact in Miami. Old Cutler Presbyterian touches so many, through bible studies, a vibrant youth ministry, a Spanish-speaking service, music and the arts, and numerous one-on-one personal connections. My goals is to be extremely visible in our community, meeting people and families, and hopefully encouraging their spiritual lives.”
Dr. Campbell can be heard at Old Cutler Presbyterian’s two Sunday services, 9:15 and 11 a.m. For details, visit online at www.OldCutlerChurch.org.
