Palmer Trinity School (PTS) sophomore Miguel Franco recently was awarded first place in the High School Digital Arts category of the 2017 Beaux Arts Student Artist Showcase for his submission, Identity Silhouette.

The Beaux Art Student Artist Showcase annually features select works from middle and high school students across Miami-Dade County.

Franco’s piece combined layers of digital imagery to reflect himself within the borders of his own silhouette. Palmer Trinity’s Digital Art program provides students with an opportunity to explore photography as well as digital editing and collage.

“Miguel’s artwork combines photos of places and objects in a way that clearly appeals to the eye,” said Sandi Wood, the digital art teacher at Beaux Arts added the Student Artist Showcase (SAS) to the Festival of Art event weekend in 2002. Middle school and high school aged students from both public and private schools enter their works of art to a juried art contest. More than 350 art pieces are judged. The finalists’ and winners’ works of art are exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum during the Festival of Art weekend and a reception is held in their honor. Cash prizes are awarded to winners in five art categories. One student is honored with the Best in Show award.
