SMDCAC presents Classic Albums Live — Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon

South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC), 10950 SW 211 St. in Cutler Bay, presents Classic Albums Live – Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon on Saturday, July 9, 8 p.m.

Tickets are $30 or $50 VIP. To purchase tickets call 786-573-5300 or visit SMDCAC.org.

Classic Albums Live re-creates the musical brilliance of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon — note for note, cut for cut. This is not a tribute band; there are no gimmicks or fake English accents. This simply is a live re-creation of one of the greatest pop/rock albums ever made.

Classic Albums Live brings together some of the country’s finest musicians to recreate live on stage the exact sounds of the greatest albums of the 1960s and ’70s. Musicians are chosen according to their sound and their fit into a particular niche, be it Pink Floyd, The Beatles, or The Stones.

The album might require a sitar player, a children’s choir, a string quartet or someone to ring the alarm clock. Whatever it takes, the musicians treat these revered albums like a score — the way a symphony
orchestra treats Mozart.

Eclipse (A Piece for Assorted Lunatics), as it was originally known, was first performed at the Rainbow Theatre in London on Feb.17, 1972 — more than a year before it was released as Dark Side of the Moon. The music critics loved it.

The London Times described it as “…bringing tears to the eyes. It was so completely understanding and musically questioning.” Touching on some profound themes including mental illness, conflict, greed, and the space time continuum, the album became a huge success, remaining on the charts for longer than any other album in history.
