South Dade's Cauley Square to sparkle with holiday cheer

Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village, which has a dozen quaint specialty shops and three distinctly different restaurants set amidst lush tropical foliage and quiet, shaded pathways, is dressing up for the holiday season and offering an alternative to the frantic mall environments for shoppers and diners.

There will be a special event at Cauley Square on Sunday, Dec. 11, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to events coordinator Abigael G. Gonzalez. Parking is free and admission to the Cauley Square park also is free.

“It’s going to be a family-friendly day, with activities for kids to do at an additional cost,” Gonzalez said. “We’ll be having face painting, balloon art, crafts, a trackless train, pony rides, and photos with Santa.”

The family photos with Santa will be $15 and one with just the kids will be $10 per child.

“We’ll also have live performances by the students from Miami Dade College,” Gonzalez said. “The group is called Vocal Fusion, and we’ll have Paramount Dance Studios, who will do live dance performances — and, of course, Santa and his little helpers.”

There will be food specials that day at the Village Chalet Restaurant and at the Tea Room.

Cauley Square is located at 22400 Old Dixie Hwy. (off US1 at 224th Street), not far from Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay and Kendall. For more information call 305-258-3543 or 305-878-1410.
