Since its debut, the Subaru BRZ has made a name for itself as a powerful sports car that does not mess around with an attractive price tag.

For 2017, the Subaru BRZ gets more power, revised suspension tuning, a few visual changes, and a newly offered performance package.

This year also brings an improvement in the BRZ’s handling and horsepower, which is thanks to Subaru’s improved design for the BRZ.

This year’s BRZ’s 2.0-liter flat-four offers more airflow and less friction, which has led to an increase in horsepower. While it’s a small increase of 5 extra horsepower and 5 more pound-feet of torque, it’s a welcomed addition. The new horsepower and torque totals are 205 and 156, respectively.

Subaru also tuned the BRZ’s chassis; its springs and dampers are new, and so is the larger anti-roll bar. By far, the BRZ’s strongest selling point is handling. Its steering is communicative and responsive. While riding in the BRZ, you feel connected with the road beneath you.

The 2017 BRZ not only is capable of providing a powerful ride, but it also is very capable of protecting you in the case of an accident. In government testing, the BRZ earned a four of five stars in frontal crash tests for both the driver and passenger as well as a five out of five stars in rollover testing.

Other than the changes under the surface, the BRZ’s exterior also has received some tweaks. Its redesigned headlamps use only LED lights, and its lower fascia looks wider and more eye- catching than before. From behind, the BRZ now sports bolder LED taillights a slim aluminum wing. Inside, the focal point is a new smaller, steering wheel and a new 4.2-inch performance display integrated into the instrument bezel. The BRZ Limited trim also received a more spiffy interior — its cabin is fashioned premium material accents with Alcantara seat inserts and its seatback is embroidered in a red BRZ. A classic two-door shape and a cockpit give the Subaru BRZ its recognizable sports-car looks.

As far as the 2017 BRZ’s features, you’ll find these inside: Bluetooth phone connectivity, Sirius Radio which includes a four-month trial, USB with iPod connectivity, heated front seats and exterior mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter. The only area in which the BRZ falls short, is in its cargo space which understandably is limited.

Also new for this year, the BRZ will be offered with a performance package for manual-transmission Limited models. It includes upgrades for those who enjoy taking their car for a spin on the track. The package includes upgraded Brembo breaks, which result in better stopping power. It also includes Sachs performance dampers and black-painted 17-inch wheels.

If you have a need for speed but don’t want to break the bank, look no further than the 2017 BRZ. This year, the Subaru sports car has improved handling as well as an altered design both inside and out. These changes allow for more horsepower, torque and a more attractive exterior. The 2017 Subaru brings the power and looks while also ensuring you and your passenger are safe.

The MSRP for the 2017 Subaru BRZ Limited is $27,645.
