Village to host ‘Back to School Bash with distribution of free backpacks

The Village of Palmetto Bay will host its “Back to School Bash” on Aug. 13 and is offering a free backpack for children attending.

The location of the event is Palmetto Bay Park, 17535 SW 95 Ave., and it is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be one bookbag issued to each child registered in a household, and there is space to register up to four children per household. Proof of residency is required and backpacks will be available while supplies last.

There will be booths featuring community resources, health and safety demonstrations, information on recreational programs and events, fingerprinting, as well as bounce houses, fun foods and a bike helmet giveaway.

“We’d like to thank our sponsors, Gus Machado Ford, Christ Fellowship, and Nicklaus Children’s Palmetto Bay Outpatient Center,” said Saylin Paez, village program and events coordinator. “UM Bike Safe and the Palmetto Bay Police Department Community Outreach Unit will be providing free helmet fittings and giveaways, while supplies last.”

Registration online before the event is required, and parents must include the name, school, age and gender of each child that is registered. Go to www.123contactform.com/form-2072972/Back-To-School to register or call 305-259-1234, if you need assistance.
