Swim Week Makes A Splash in Miami Beach

This year marked the 10th year that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim took over the tents at the Raleigh hosting some of the most sought after runway collections in swim wear. The biggest brands made a splash with their newest, brightest and, at times, skimpiest bikinis for the ultra-chic girl. The premiere fashion event in Miami Beach brings hundreds of thousands of dollars to the city and international bikini cache.

A brand we caught at the official swim week tents was International swim brand Poko Pano, best known for its sexy silhouettes in vibrant colors and tropical prints, the line embodied Rio de Carnival and Miami in one solid show. Also, a huge hit was L*SPACE by Monica Wise, which presented its swim and apparel Resort & Spring 2015 collections during a private show that was themed The Water is Waiting. The concept was beautifully executed from the deconstructed element to the styling, which included scale-like tattoos custom made by Flash Tattoos

However, receiving a fair amount of buzz were the satellite fashion shows happening at venues like Nikki Beach Miami. Many fashionistas gathered at the hot spot to see local brands showcase their newest collections. Budding designer Danielle Pinder, the mastermind behind dbrie, presented her 2015 collection that was the talk of the show.

Known for her custom designs, Pinder is expanding her brand and offering a shop-online feature (www.dbrie.com) that recently launched. She also presented her line at “Escape Miami” at the National Hotel and hosted a swank party at the Boulan.

“Custom will always be my niche and what I’m known for,” Pinder said. “Some girls don’t have the time to sit with me and design a tailored made suit and the shop online option will be their answer. The reception has been already amazing.”

MIAMI magazine hosted its 6th annual SPLASHION soiree highlighted with a special performance by top charting artists, Nico & Vinz at the historic Fillmore Miami Beach. As an unofficial kick-off to the upcoming swim week festivities, the event included a six-line fashion show. They also offered blow outs by Dry de Luxe and polish changes by Nail Republic.

Also, a fun and unique idea from the new French boutique Roses and Dreams was a series of pop-up parties at the swank Villa Azur. The owner of the boutique Valerie Engel showcased the latest trends from while customers enjoyed their dinner and drinks at the French restaurant.

“Lace pants, lace dresses, hippie chic trousers, velvet flare, our brands are unique in Miami Beach,” said Engel. “You cannot find them anywhere else.”

Finally, the can’t-miss show with a feelgood factor that boasted designs by Trina Turk, Kai Lani and Del Toro was the Style Saves show, presented by Grey Goose, at Soho Beach House. The Style Saves’ mission is to “build confidence through clothes and give a fresh start through fashion” to local underprivileged students in South Florida.

For the in the know fashionista, the average consumer or party goer this year’s Miami Swim Week did not disappoint.
