Children’s Bereavement Center offers back-to-school program for kids suffering a recent loss

Getting back to school this time of year presents enough of its own challenges – especially for children, young adults, and adult caregivers who recently experienced the death of a loved one. With that in mind, the Children’s Bereavement Center (BCB) has just released its back-to-school Peer Support Group schedule for children and their families.

In partnership with VITAS® Healthcare, the groups are held throughout Miami-Dade County (Doral, Coconut Grove, Miami Shores, West Miami-Dade), in Broward County (Fort Lauderdale), and soon in Palm Beach County.

“It’s estimated that one in five school aged children experiences the death of a family member or friend. Learning to adjust to life, as opposed to just being told “get over it,” can make the experience more acceptable. Finding support in others often helps, especially for children.

The CBC provides a safe environment that allows survivors to share, connect, and feel part of a community after loss,” said Chief Executive Officer Claude Grubair.

Peer Support Groups meet each week at 6:30 p.m. throughout the school year at the following locations:
• Coconut Grove | Mondays | Ransom Everglades | 3575 Main Highway, Miami FL 33133
• Miami Shores | Tuesdays | Miami Country Day School | 601 NE 107 Street, Miami FL 33161
• Fort Lauderdale | Wednesdays| NSU Mailman Segal Center | 7600 SW 36 Street, Bldg. 100, Davie, FL 33328
• West Miami-Dade | Wednesdays | Belen Jesuit Preparatory School |500 SW 127th Avenue, Miami FL 33184
• Palm Beach | Tuesdays | Franklin Academy Charter School | 882 S. Military Trail, Boynton Beach, FL 33463
