South Florida residents invited to join volunteer efforts
On Saturday, April 26, local Comcast employees along with their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer to improve homes in the South Miami neighborhood of West Perrine as part of “Comcast Cares Day.” Residents in the Miami-Dade area are encouraged to join this special volunteer event in support of the South Florida community.
The homes in this South Miami neighborhood are in dire need of repairs. Many of the homeowners are elderly, disabled or veterans living on less than $20,000 a year. Projects will include painting, repairs and landscaping. Area residents are encouraged to come and help provide support at this special event.. All volunteers will receive lunch and a t-shirt!
Members of the general public can sign up by visiting www.comcastinthecommunity.com, searching for projects in Miami and selecting “Rebuilding Together Miami Day- Powering Dreams in Our Community.” Participants are encouraged to sign up in advance of the April 26 event.
Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast and NBCUniversal’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. This year the Company expects more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in over 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, more than half a million volunteers have contributed over 3 million volunteer hours since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $14 million in grants to partner organizations to match the efforts of volunteers on Comcast Cares Day.
