Born in New Jersey, Jose Oliva grew up in Hialeah – in the very District 110 he has represented since being elected to the State House of Representatives in 2011. He attended Twin Lakes Elementary, Palm Springs Junior High, and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High.
Oliva is a lifelong Republican who is committed to public service and community involvement. He brings his successful business experience as CEO Oliva Cigar Company, along with his conservative values to the state legislature.
He is poised to become speaker of the house in 2018, the first from Miami-Dade County since Senator Marco Rubio. Oliva platform includes his pledge to improve Florida’s economy and help create jobs, make education more affordable and accessible, and improve our quality of life through ethical leadership and sensible government policies.
Oliva’s memberships and involvement includes: Kiwanis Club, Census Board for Hialeah, Hialeah Housing Commissioner (2001-2005), founding member of “El Consejo Por La Libertad de Cuba, and the title sponsor of the Pinar del Rio Chapter of the Cuba Corps Project to educate Cuban children.
