Integrated Health Center of Miami (IHCMiami), has joined forces with the Ana G. Mendez University System – a private university in Puerto Rico with a South Florida campus – to serve as a donation center in Doral for Hurricane Maria relief efforts for Puerto Rico.
Non-perishable food items, cases of water, baby supplies, over the counter medications, and first aid supplies, batteries and toilet paper are some of the essential items being collected and shipped by air and boat to the island.
IHCMiami’s Director, Dr. Ruben Valdes, D.C., is a native of Puerto Rico, so to him, this cause is personal.
“Puerto Rico is my home and even though I am here in Miami and this is where my life is,” he said. “Part of my heart is with my island and with all of my family and loved ones – with the people that I grew up with, with other people that I have always worked with, and with all those that have been a part of my life.
“At IHCMiami, we are all very committed to the island of Puerto Rico. We have a lot of patients there that we treat remotely, some of whom actually lost their homes completely after this tragedy, so we want to try and support them in any way that we can,” he added.
Earlier this year, Dr. Valdes traveled to Puerto Rico to present educational, complimentary lunch seminars on Type II Diabetes and Hypothyroidism, revealing a fresh clinical approach for patients suffering from these chronic diseases and utilizing a unique method based on the Functional Medicine model. IHCMiami was founded to help patients reverse the symptoms of these chronic conditions instead of just managing them.
