KRMC opens new surgical, internal medicine residencies

Kendall Regional Medical Center began its new General Surgery and Internal Medicine residency programs July 1 following rigorous accreditation protocols. The General Surgery residency program led by Mark McKenney, M.D., F.A.C.S., will begin training 16 residents to becoming surgeons.

The Center is wellequipped to provide high quality training to the residents with a Level II Trauma Center, Burn Center, and variety of general, orthopedic and other subspecialty surgical specialties.

“This is the first new allopathic (MD) surgery training program in Miami Dade County in over 60 years,” said Dr. McKenney. “Kendall Regional Medical Center is proud to be recognized as having the surgeons and resources to train the next generation of surgeons.”

The Internal Medicine residency is starting with 10 residents for their first year of training.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to train these young physicians to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients and become leaders in the field of medicine,” said Himangi Kaushal, M.D., F.A.C.P., Program Director.

“Our goal is to uphold and further strengthen the motto of KRMC: ‘Quality care – Done right’”. The Internal Medicine program is well positioned to provide an excellent educational environment for the residents with multiple subspecialty areas that will provide the student with a full breadth of exposure to the field of medicine.

“This is a very exciting time for Kendall Regional Medical Center and the community-at-large as we move into this new area of training residents,” said Bill Boyer, D.H.S.C., M.S., Director of Graduate Medical Education.

“Both programs selected an outstanding group of residents who are eager to start providing high quality care to our patients,”

Kendall Regional Medical Center is a 417-bed, full-service teaching hospital providing 24-hour comprehensive medical, Level II Trauma, burn (adult & pediatric), surgical, behavioral health, pediatric and diagnostic services, along with a wide range of patient and community services.
