Miami Christian School Basketball dominates; NHS inducts new class

Both the Boys and Girls Basketball teams continue to dominate. As of this writing, the Girls remain undefeated and the Boys’ beat the number 4 ranked team in the U.S. and the number 1 ranked team in New Jersey in the December Kruel Classic in Coral Springs. The Boys team is ranked number 1 in the State of Florida, Division 2A.

In other Miami Christian School news, scholars abound at MCS as the Fall induction welcomed several new members into the National Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society. Qualities found in these members include not only scholarship but service, leadership, and character.

After a welcome from High School Principal James Gentry, the NHS & NJHS Armor Chapter President Armor Chapter President Christine Rosillo conducted the presentation of Candle Knowledge and lighting ceremony. Officers participated as well including Vice President, Jacqueline Gonzalez; Secretary, Brittney Rodriguez; Treasurer, Bryant Pineda; and Chaplain, Andres Valdes.

Fall 2017 NHS inductees were Julieth Angarita, Robin Baez, Nina Beam, Bryan Castro, Jason Garcia, Juan Guerra, Jose Marrero, Daniel Miguel, Edgardo Negron, Bill Padron, Leandro Rodriguez, Yureysy Vasquez, Aniela Victores and Daniel Victores.

NJHS inductees were Yuniel Blanco, Samuel Brito, Christopher Del Villar, Dubraska Ifill, Sophia Malpic, Matthew Martinez, Alejandra Monge Mejia, Joshua Munoz, Isabella Saunig, and Gabriel Victores.

In other school news, before the Christmas break, the K-3 and K-4 grade students studied a section on transportation and then created prototypes of various types of transportation for a project. This creative bunch treated the other grades to a parade of their completed works providing an entertaining break in the school day.

Senior acceptances are beginning to come in with ZaBria Bridges being accepted to Florida Memorial University and Jaqueline Gonzalez receiving an acceptance letter to Barry University. These are certainly the first of many for this class.

A graduate of the University of Florida with a major in Spanish, Burns has an extensive background in advertising, marketing and reciprocal trade, travel , non profit consulting and management. Before joining Miami's Community Newspapers as a columnist and marketing specialist, Gloria was the Executive Director of the Jr. Orange Bowl Committee (6 yrs.) and first Executive Director of the Coral Gables Community Foundation (14 yrs.) and the Pinecrest Community Foundation (1 ½ yrs) . Burns' volunteer activities led her to become a columnist for Community Newspapers writing Gloria’s Gab, that focuses on the non-profit activity, and a host of an online show, Gloria's Gab LIVE. Gloria serves the board of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables as Civic and Charity Chair, and is involved in the club's International Committee. She is an active Life Member of the Jr. Orange Bowl Committee and is Secretary of the Merrick Festival. She serves on the board of directors of the Coral Gables Woman' Club as Publicity Chair and also coordinates the club's monthly fundraiser for various charities with Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger. In addition, Gloria participates in numerous other charitable events and is a member of the Business Forum Group, Profit Inc., the Greater Miami Festival & Events Association and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
