On Sunday, November 8, 2015, The American Cancer Society will kick off the Relay For Life of Doral 2016 at Buzzer Beater from 4:00pm-6:00pm. This year, our Event Lead and former Survivor Lead, Jorge Calil and Sponsorship Lead Jackie Alers are working together to make the Relay For Life of Doral bigger and better! We are pleased to know that our previous sponsors are fully committed including Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center who is our Platinum Sponsor for the second year in a row. In addition, Carmen I. Bigles who is co-founder of the center has graciously accepted the volunteer role as Survivor Lead for 2016. Our Honorary Chair and Community Champion is City of Doral Councilmember, Pete Cabrera. Together, these individuals along with many volunteers are working hard to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Through these fundraising efforts, American Cancer Society is able to provide programs for those who have been diagnosed with cancer. The American Cancer Society does not focus on just one form of cancer. They focus on all cancers. If you, a family member or friend have been diagnosed with cancer then you know of all of its terrible effects on individuals emotionally, physically and financially.
“I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last year and with the love and support of family and friends like you, along with radiation and chemo treatments, I am blessed to say that I am presently cancer free. *My last Chemo treatment was the night before last year’s kick-off, so for me kick-off will forever be extra special. It is a reminder of what my family and I went through. It’s a reminder of how with Faith, Family, and Friends, I was able to beat Cancer. It’s a reminder that many families (thousands right here in Doral) are going through this right now.
