HistoryMiami and the 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society will host a panel discussion on April 10 about the potential changes to Florida’s gaming industry, a billion -dollar revenue generator for the state and the subject of multiple bills currently making their way through its Legislature. Conceived as a tool for civic engagement, these panel discussions and forums organized periodically at HistoryMiami are designed to provide an opportunity for County residents to engage in dialogue with experts on contemporary issues that affect our community.
Panelists include state legislators, local casino and gaming operators, and prominent industry consultants:
• Sen. Maria Sachs – Florida State Senator & Gaming Committee Vice Chair
• Randall A. Fine – Managing Director, The Fine Point Group
• Dave Jonas – President and Chief Operating Officer, Miami Jai Alai
• Isadore “Izzy” Havenick – Vice President, Magic City Casino
• Christopher A. Jarvinen, Esq. – Partner, Berger Singerman LLP
Etan Mark, Partner at Berger Singerman LLP and HistoryMiami 11th Judicial Circuit Historical Society Chairman, who will moderate the panel, is hopeful the discussion will provide clarity and a legislative update about an issue that has been the subject of both headlines and emotional debates.
“Between the Florida House and Senate proposals, Governor Scott’s current negotiations with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and developmental interest from gaming giants like Genting Group, a number of factors are starting to coalesce that likely will alter the landscape of gaming in our state,” says Mark. “This discussion should provide the public with a refreshing and realistic outlook on what could change and how soon, from those on the front lines of this debate.”
