In an effort to bring awareness of heart disease and the impact it has on women, the City of North Miami Beach Commission on the Status of Women, Councilwoman Beth E. Spiegel, liaison, will host the City’s first-ever “Heart Health Walk” on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Gwen Margolis Amphitheater, 16501 NE 16th Avenue right in the heart of North Miami Beach.
“Heart Health Walk” will last from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and the actual walk will commence at 9 a.m. This walk is a free, family-friendly event open to all age groups. The 2.6 mile walk will follow the paved trails along the banks of Snake Creek Canal. Participants will begin and end at Gwen Margolis Amphitheater.
Amphitheater gates will open promptly at 8 a.m. for walkers to register and allow attendees time to visit a variety of booths and tables hosting local health care professionals who will be on hand to provide free health screenings throughout the event. Also, fitness trainers will provide free group exercise routines for attendees. The event will include music and entertainment, raffles and prizes, and much more. Students who participate will be eligible for five community service hours.
