MIAMI – The League of Women Voters of Miami-Dade County will hold its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 12th. This year’s program is dedicated to “Honoring Women in the Judiciary” and the League is delighted to have as our keynote speaker the Honorable Bertila Soto, Chief Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. We’re particularly proud of Judge Soto for being the first woman and the first Hispanic to be elected to this position.
The new 2013-2014 board of directors will be installed and Maribel Balbin has been nominated to serve a second term as president. As one of the most respected and recognized organizations in the country our nonpartisan participation in the democratic process will continue to focus on encouraging reasoned debate and fairness in voting.
The League fully appreciates the rigors of being elected to office and we recognize the exceptional challenges of being elected to a judicial position. It’s for that reason that we also want to applaud the successful efforts of the ten women that were recently elected to the bench. The League will recognize their extraordinary dedication to public service, justice and equality at this event.
