Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater’s Department of Financial Services, is holding a free workshop for seniors, their families and their caregivers. Called Be Scam Smart, the workshop will teach attendees how to recognize a scam, how scams work, and how to avoid identity theft.
The Be Scam Smart workshop will be held at the North Dade Regional Library Auditorium in Miami Gardens on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The workshops are part of CFO Atwater’s Operation S.A.F.E. initiative, which focuses on frauds and scams, such as fake lotteries and home improvement scams, and how these scams work on the psyche to convince seniors to take a chance on something that is too good to be true.
Registration can be made online at www.MyFloridaCFO.com/Safe or by contacting the Division of Consumer Services toll-free at 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (693-5236). Registration will also be open one hour prior to the workshop.
