Three young Palmetto Bay residents who are bicycle enthusiasts will be representing the village at the 2018 UCI World BMX Championship to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, June 5-9, with arrival and accreditation beginning a few days earlier.

Christian Meyer, 11, and Aiden Voss, 8, who will be riding in the Expert class, as well as Dylan Voss, 5, riding in the Intermediate class, have been training at Miami South BMX, located in the Miami-Dade County Park at 13050 SW 216 St. in the heart of the Redland.

Miguel Tapanes, the current president for Miami South BMX, is excited about the youngsters’ accomplishments.

“Earlier this year, these exceptional riders attended the Oldsmar BMX track in Tampa, FL and qualified for the 2018 UCI World BMX Championship,” Tapanes said. “We at Miami South BMX are so proud of Christian Meyer and Aiden and Dylan Voss. We wanted to share this monumental feat of these three young boys with the residents of Palmetto Bay.”

The boys also are excited and looking forward to the competition.

“It felt good to get the medal for qualifying for The Worlds to represent the USA,” Meyer said. “I was surprised and honored.”

Aiden Voss said, “Making it to The Worlds means everything to me. It took a lot of practice and hard work to make it to The Worlds.”

Dylan Voss added, “I felt like I had to pedal faster to win and I feel happy I made it to The Worlds and now we can celebrate.”
